Acting in Accordance with Article VII of the Constitution of the National Organization of Sierra Leoneans in North America (NOSLINA, Amended 1999) the Board of Directors of NOSLINA has approved and authorized that honors, awards, and recognitions be bestowed on individuals or organizations for exemplary contributions to Sierra Leoneans in North America and in Sierra Leone. The awards will be conferred April 25 at 9 PM at the Holiday Inn Hotel College Park, Maryland as part of the celebration of the 11th Anniversary of NOSLINA and the 48th Anniversary of Sierra Leone’s Independence.  It is truly remarkable that ten years have rolled by since we met at Howard University in 1998 to establish what was then a unique and well received idea: to come together in large numbers from across the United States and Canada to speak with one voice on matters of the gravest concern to our country and our people. The issues of the day were truly significant: advocating an immediate return to democracy in Sierra Leone, deepening our interconnectedness based on the strengths of the disparate groups represented; marshalling our rich human capital to help facilitate and promote development back home in the areas of health, education, poverty alleviation, civic education and to help build the vital habits and institutions of democracy.

 Award wining actor and philanthropist, Isaiah Washington is slated to receive a special distinguished Diamond Award from the National Organization of Sierra Leoneans in North America (NOSLINA) at their 11th Anniversary Fundraising Dinner/Dance and Awards Gala Saturday April 25th 2009 at the Holiday Inn Hotel College Park, Maryland. The event will also celebrate the 48th anniversary of Sierra Leone’s Independence.

The National Organization of Sierra Leoneans in North America (NOSLINA) is proud to announce that we are now accepting ads for our 2009 Awards and Sierra Leone Independence Day Gala Commemorative Program Book. As you may be aware, our Program Book is distributed nationally (including the offices of many U.S. senatorial and congressional leaders, not to mention the many local businesses and residents who received copies), as well as internationally. NOSLINA is not only accepting business ads, we are also accepting personal “shout outs” – a fantastic way to acknowledge that special anniversary, birthday, graduation, new job/promotion, as well as remembering a dearly departed loved one? Whether the occasion has come and gone, or will take place in the future, it can - and will always - be memorialized in print. We will even help you design an ad or personal announcement!
